The Prime Minister Dileita Mohamed Dileita, yesterday received the Director General of FAO, Mr. Mohammed Rouighi.
The interview, which took place in mid-morning, was in the presence of Mr. Rashid Hasan Saban, Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister.
During their exchange, the prime minister and the envoy of the Director General of FAO has focused both on the excellent relations of cooperation.
They then discussed the issue of food security that will dominate their discussion because of its importance today, especially all the concerns and issues it raises all the time around the world .
Mr. Dileita Mohamed Dileita has, in effect, reaffirmed the government's position that Djibouti has made this issue a priority.
In other words, the Prime Minister emphasized the untiring efforts by the Djibouti authorities to ensure food security at national level, even to seek the assistance of friendly countries such as Ethiopia, Sudan and Malawi for the granting of arable land could provide in quantities to cover short-term needs for basic nutrition.
Imprint courage, dictated solely by the determination of head of state Ismail Omar Guelleh to lay the groundwork for sustainable development, the initiative had the merit to draw significant hopes.
This shows the strong commitment of the Republic of Djibouti to meet the challenges despite many obstacles, mainly due to the arid environment, defining characteristic of a hostile versed in the vagaries of the sky. The wave of unprecedented drought, which has continued to plague the sub-region during recent years by scoring relentlessly on the lives of rural people and their flocks, has not helped.
Recalling the need to turn to introduce today a food security based on firm guarantees, the effluent of the FAO Director-General briefed the Prime Minister of a new mechanism designed for this purpose in World Bank, which mechanism is reflected in particular by the recent creation of a department of the question, "Agriculture".
The personal representative Mr. Jacques Diouf spoke of the last implementation phase of decentralization on decision making within the international institution.
